10. These Didn't Work but We Still Loved Them

These were designed to correct errors, yet they worked just as well as a shovel for excavating a large hole. Every time you tried to delete something, you typically found yourself in more mess than before. Whether it was smudges, tears, or eraser shavings all over our paper - we still truly enjoyed these things. Children back then indeed just couldn't get enough fruit-shaped erasers.
These vintage fruit-shaped erasers were the height of the 90s; they were like small colorful grenades ready to blow apart your schoolwork since all they did was ruin the paper. But oh, how loved we did them! Though they were completely ineffective at their intended usage, their vivid colors and playful designs made them alluring. Recall the thrill of receiving a fresh set, every eraser precisely shaped and softly smelled of synthetic fruit? We would set them on our desks, swap them among classmates, and even use them as temporary toys during dull lectures. Almost beside the issue was their poor erasing ability. They were status symbols, keepsakes, and a means of expression for our own personalities using our classroom supplies. While some children wear them down to unrecognizable nubs, others would want to conserve them, never really using them to wipe. Not to overlook the ones that broke in two parts; they were like puzzle erasers! The fruit forms were only the beginning; soon we had erasers fashioned like everything from animals to tiny Coke cans. Looking back, these erasers were the ideal metaphor for childhood itself: not always useful, but full of color, joy, and the odd mess. Though they didn't help our homework, they most surely made our days and pencil cases more pleasant.
