If you didn't know the truth until recently, you can feel as though your whole childhood was a lie. That's fine, though, as learning the reality blows everyone's mind. It was difficult to believe that such large and fluffy towel displays were not merely overflowing with towels given their size and texture. Though we know better these days, we nevertheless experience some disappointment.
Discovering that underneath these towels were nothing more than foam holders was like learning the tooth fairy wasn't real all over again and it did sort of hurt. One of those times when innocence from infancy gives way to mature realism. Recall strolling through department store's home goods section and marveling at the towers of precisely folded, color-coordinated towels? Maintaining their form regardless of the number of people brushing by them, they looked to challenge gravity. Never running out after a shower, we dreamed of the luxury of having so many fluffy towels at home. A little letdown is the reality check: all of it is a mirage produced by deft merchandising. Still, it's evidence of the creativity of store display methods as well. The next time you visit a store, stop to consider the skill behind these clever yet striking towers of terrycloth.
